CY33 Mural Selection: The Final Two
Last week RNDSQR hosted the CY33 Artist Talk at cSPACE King Edward for a night celebrating and discussing public art in our city.
Guests enjoyed slices of UNA pizza and wine from Vine Arts while viewing the original 10 mural submissions in the courtyard. Following the reception, RNDSQR Co-Founder Alkarim Devani spoke on the project, the art campaign, and RNDSQR LIFE. Johanna Hurme of CY33's architecture firm, 5468796 Architecture, discussed the building design and inspiration. Following these presentations, the four final artists, Kalum Teke Dan, Ben Arcega, Daniel Kirk (and Katie Green), and Cassie Suche, were called to the stage for the artist talk moderated by Peter Schryvers.
The artists took part in an hour-long dialogue where they shared their vision and work and answered questions on how their piece would benefit the community, who should fund public art, and the longevity of public art. Once the room cleared, the carefully selected seven judges started deliberating.
After thorough consideration from seven judges, we are thrilled to announce CY33's final two murals will be completed by local artists Cassie Suche and collaborative pair Katie Green & Daniel Kirk. Suche will be painting her original piece on the elevator shaft located in the interior courtyard, a challenging area with three walls to cover. The collaborative piece between Green and Kirk's piece was chosen for the exterior East wall facing 33rd Avenue, which will cover about two-thirds of the surface. RNDSQR is proud to have commissioned these artists to bring their visions to life for the public in Marda Loop.

RNDSQR would like to thank all the artists who submitted work and participated in the 10-month art campaign.
You can still view the original 10 pieces at the RNDSQR Sales Centre and at Phil & Sebastian in Marda Loop. Look for more information surrounding painting dates next year when the selected murals will be going up!
