We were blown away by the vibrancy of this abstract painting, and ready for some 3 on 3! Located on the North corner of 33rd Avenue and 22nd Street as you head West, the 2018 Wreck City Residency in under way. A total of 14 artists are taking part this year, chosen from 120 submissions from over fourteen countries.
If you haven’t heard of Wreck City before, it’s something all Calgarians should know about. This year it is funded through the Canadian Council for the Arts’ New Chapter Program, aimed at supporting the arts for Canada’s 150th. Founded in 2013, Wreck City is all about community, challenging norms, creating conversation and new connections through exploring time and forgotten spaces. Before this residency, Wreck City hosted three other projects including, Wreck City: An Epilogue for 809, Phantom Wing, and Demo Tape. Read more about these phenomenal past projects here.
The artist residency runs from June 22nd to July 26th, with their public exhibition from July 27th to August 12th. It’s coming up quickly, so get ready for some cool events and artwork!
At RNDSQR, building community is the focal point of all our projects. We’re beyond stoked to host these amazing artists and can’t wait to see the final product come to life!
